Giorni #2

Ciao Amici!
Today I finally moved into my apartment! Went to the UW Rome Center and checked in, got my keys and then found out my apartment is 3 miles away from the RC (which is in the Campo dei Fiori if anyone is interested) to my apartment which is next to the Vatican. I can see the dome of St. Peter's Basilica from my room! I'm sharing my apartment with 9 other girls. 2 bathrooms, 3 rooms, 10 girls. These are going to be some crazy 5 weeks here in Rome! One of the girls I'm living with, Casey, was already here and so we went over and toured the Vatican museums and St. Peter's together. It was so cool! The Sistine Chapel is absolutely gorgeous and we had an awesome tour guide who had studied Theology and Art History in college so he knew everything about the Vatican. It was totally cool. Then we came back and a bunch of the girls came with us out to dinner. Our apartment is surrounded by restaurants and gelaterias. I'm sure I'm going to be fat from all the pasta and ice cream when I get home because it's all just so delicious!! I love italian food. I'll be putting pictures up soon of my apartment and the surrounding area so look for those on Facebook tomorrow! Goodnight for now!

  1. I think the 3miles each way daily will take care of the gelato. I think you're going to need more tennis shoes!!

  2. yayyy little you're on my side of the river! remember how i told you trastevere is the best! i miss it dearly.
during your time there make sure you get a map and head south to a church called S. Maria in Trastevere. it is 2 blocks up from my apartment and without a doubt my favorite church in rome, it will take your breath away. down a street from that piazza is also some of the best, cheapest food at Ristorante Carlo Menta (101 Via della Lungaretta). the John Cabot kids go there a lot so they are pretty good with english, and the food was really good. eat in trastevere as much as possible, the best food is there.
near there, and just up from my old street Via Luciano Manera is Via Garibaldi, which goes up this incredible tree-lined hill. on the way up there is a pretty famous fountain, but at the top is a major statue of Garibaldi and without a doubt the best view in all of rome. guaranteed. walk up there one night with your roommates after dinner and watch the sun set, it will be incredible i promise.
finally, you have a crazy long walk to the campo. don't be afraid to try out the buses! just look for ones going to Largo Argentina, which is right outside the campo. trust me it's worth learning, i took buses all over rome (and never even got groped.)
remember to stay up late and wake up early and explore absolutely as much as you can! i want stories! ti voglio bene piccola!
